From the car park to the oven

The farm class in six moments

The three hours as they run, from the meeting point in town to the van ride back down.

Start times vary by date: the booking calendar shows them. The ride, the lesson and the meal are the same each time; the first course follows the season.

  1. 01

    The ride up

You meet the farm's van at the Parcheggio Vallone dei Mulini on Via Fuorimura, in the centre of Sorrento. The drive up into the hills takes about twenty minutes, so there is no hunting for the farm on your own.

  2. 02

    The farm

A welcome drink, an aperitif and about ten minutes of free time on the relaxation lawn, with the Gulf of Naples spread out below. It is a working farm, so the surroundings are farmland rather than a dining room.

  3. 03

    The dough

The family explains and demonstrates, then you take over. The hour-long pizza school is where you work the dough and learn the farm family's own pizza recipe. Guests mention tossing the dough as a highlight.

  4. 04

    The wood oven

Baking is part of the lesson: the dinner is built on pizza you made and baked with your own hands. The class normally runs in the open air, and the farm keeps a covered room with a wood oven for bad weather, so the lesson goes ahead either way.

  5. 05

    Dinner

At the farmhouse table the pizza you made comes with an appetiser of cold cuts and fresh mozzarella, vegetables from the fields, a first course that follows the season and a traditional dessert. Water and wine are included.

  6. 06

    Limoncello

The meal closes with tastings of wine, extra-virgin olive oil and limoncello, then the van takes you the twenty minutes back down to the same car park in town.

  1. 01

    The welcome

A welcome drink on arrival and an aperitif on the lawn before the lesson starts.

  2. 02

    Your pizza

Made and baked with your own hands, then eaten at the table. It is the centre of the dinner.

  3. 03

    Cold cuts and fresh mozzarella

An appetiser plate that comes before the main course.

  4. 04

    Field vegetables

    A dish of field vegetables.

  5. 05

A first course by the season

This course follows the season, so it changes through the year.

  6. 06

    Dessert

A traditional dessert closes the meal, with water, wine and limoncello poured throughout.

Why a farm

Why make pizza on a farm

A farm that really works

The class is held on a working farm in the green hills above Sorrento, looking out over the Gulf of Naples. It is billed as farm to table and seasonal, and the tasting that comes with the pizza covers products made on the farm. How a traditional farm is organised and works is part of the visit.

A family at the head of the table

Guests who write about the class talk about the host family before they talk about the pizza: welcoming, funny, and quick to make a stranger feel like part of the household. One guest describes a toast at the end of the night to celebrate an engagement.

Pizza in the home region of pizza

Sorrento sits on the Bay of Naples, and Neapolitan pizza is a protected tradition: a soft, thin dough with high edges, formed by hand. Learning it here puts the lesson in its home region, with the lemons, wine, nuts and olives that Sorrento produces close at hand.

Limoncello where lemons grow

Limoncello is a lemon liqueur made mainly in southern Italy, especially around the Gulf of Naples, and traditionally from the zest of the lemons known as Sorrento or Sfusato lemons. The farm class ends with a tasting of wine, extra-virgin olive oil and limoncello, and the longer farm-tour option walks you through the citrus grove as well.

Notes for the day

Before you go

Where the van meets you

The meeting point is the Parcheggio Vallone dei Mulini at Via Fuorimura 16, in the centre of Sorrento. On the farm-tour option, wait on the first floor of the car park, one floor above street level, beside the handrail where the stairs or lift come out; do not wait at the entrance. Look for a grey van or a yellow Fiat Panda and a host in a straw hat.

Start times

The booking calendar shows the start times for your date. The three hours of the dinner class include two van rides of about twenty minutes. The farm-tour lunch starts at 11:30 and runs about four hours.

If the weather turns

The class is normally outdoors, with a covered room and a wood oven as the fallback, so rain alone rarely changes anything. On the farm-tour option the walk around the farm can be cancelled for safety while the rest goes ahead. In the worst weather the whole class can be cancelled, and the cancellation brings a full refund.

Mobility

The farm class is not suitable for people with mobility impairments. If someone in your party uses a wheelchair, the restaurant lesson on the same page is the one listed as wheelchair accessible.

What to wear

Closed, comfortable shoes suit all three classes; the farm-tour option requires them and bans sandals and flip-flops. The ground at a working farm is grass and paths, and the class is mostly outdoors, so dress for the weather of the day.

Your ticket

You get a mobile ticket the moment you book, in the GetYourGuide app and on the website, so nothing needs printing. The classes are led in English.

FAQ

Asked before booking

Can I come if I am vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or allergic to something?

Plan on the farm's standard menu. The dinner is built around wheat pizza dough, fresh mozzarella, cold cuts and field vegetables, with wine throughout, and no special menu is promised for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or allergy needs. If it matters, message the host through your booking before you travel rather than counting on a swap at the table.

How do I get to the farm?

A van does the driving. It leaves from the Parcheggio Vallone dei Mulini at Via Fuorimura 16 in Sorrento, takes about twenty minutes up into the hills and returns you to the same car park at the end. You do not need a car or a taxi.

What happens if it rains?

The class normally runs outdoors, and there is a covered room with a wood oven for bad weather, so the lesson still goes ahead. In the very worst conditions the whole class can be cancelled; on the farm-tour option the walk around the farm can be dropped while the pizza lesson and lunch continue.

How long is it and what time does it start?

The dinner class takes about three hours including the two van rides. Start times depend on the date and appear on the booking calendar. The farm-tour option runs about four hours and meets at 11:30; the restaurant lesson is 90 minutes.

Is dinner really included?

Yes. The pizza you make is part of a farmhouse dinner with a cold-cuts and mozzarella appetiser, field vegetables, a first course by the season and a traditional dessert. Water, wine and limoncello are included, along with tastings of the farm's products and olive oil.

Can I bring children?

Families do come. One parent describes two boys under eleven enjoying the animals, a large play area and tossing the pizza dough on the farm-tour option. The only group named as unsuited to the farm class is people with mobility impairments.

Is there a cancellation window, and when do I pay?

Yes to both. Cancel up to 24 hours ahead and the whole fare comes back; paying later means a place can be held while your Sorrento plans take shape.

Which of the three classes should I pick?

Choose the dinner class for the lesson and a full dinner on the farm, the farm tour for animals, cheese and a lunch, and the restaurant lesson if you have 90 minutes, need wheelchair access or want transport from a pickup point near Hotel Plaza.
